Crafting a modern brand for an untapped market.

The Client

DIY needed an ecommerce brand that speaks to a specific, yet ever-growing demographic. Generation Z and younger Millennial crafters have grown dramatically, and specific crafting supplies are not as of yet sold in both B2C and Wholesale B2B markets, until now.

The User

The primary end user for this site are crafters that are interested in social media crafts (slime, sublimation printing, custom resin phone cases to name a few), and therefore are pretty savvy with tech. They have grown up with tech, therefore they’ve seen it all and value an easy way to shop and find exactly what they are looking for.

The Opportunity

DIY is a new idea for a brand for a market that has been asking for one, so it was all the more important to listen to that demographic and do my due diligence to research what they respond to. From my findings, brands that do well with a Gen Z or younger Millennial audience are brands that don’t try so hard to appeal to them. Truthful, simple messaging goes a long way, and that translates to usability and functionality, as well as aesthetics and design.

Create an easy to use platform that makes filtering categories and products easy, as the products users will shop will have significant overlap.

Create a brand identity that is aspirational, yet achievable. Authenticity is key.

Conceptualize and create a platform for “Shop the Craft” tutorials, where users can learn a new craft skill and add necessary materials to their cart with the click of a button.

Relatable, approachable, and speaks to the handmade feeling that crafting brings us. If the pandemic taught us anything, especially crafters, it taught us that sometimes it just comes down to making something authentic.

Fonts and Colors

Fun, yet simple. Not selling the user too hard, sticking to a monochromatic color scheme that is clear and concise. For mobile-first users.

Easy navigation, shopping, and learning

Selection of curated collections and crafting supplies that are easy and intuitive for crafters to navigate, whether a novice or a craft expert. Utilizes smart search plugins, collections suggestions, and video tutorial platforms.
